This page is devoted to your questions about the website, the club and the property.
Please email any questions and I’ll answer them the best I can.
Question: When is the next meeting?
Answer: Meetings are the second Saturday of the month. Meeting usually starts around 11am. Remember to bring something for the pot luck lunch. Check the calendar of events for the schedule. Summer meetings are at the property.
Question: How to do you get to the meeting or to the property?
Answer: The main road is Route 358 west of Greenville. You will see a very thin road marker saying S. Barry Rd (South Barry Road) on it. South Barry Road is off of Route 358 a little farther west toward the Ohio line.
Question: Can anyone use the property? Is it a GPAA claim?
Answer: This NOT a GPAA claim. This is private property. The property is only open to public and Non Allegheny Chapter members, during chapter meetings only. Active Allegheny Chapter members that are also GPAA members receive a property pass that allows them use of the property any time that they wish.
Question: How can I become an active Allegheny Chapter member?
Answer: Come to a meeting to find out!
Question: Will I get rich off the gold I find?
Answer: While there is gold, how much you find depends on how much work you will do. As for getting rich, no. Hate to break it to you like that. If getting rich was the case, we would not tell anyone and keep it all for ourselves.
If you click on the picture to the right (it opens in a window by it’s self) you will see that it’s not hug nuggets that we find, since this is glacier gold.
(Please note I’m trying to get better pictures of what we find at the property. If your a member and have any please email them to me or upload them to me, or if you got spare pictures I can have to scan see me at a meeting and pass them to me.)
Question: What do I need to prospect for gold?
The Short Answer: The bare minimum is a gold pan and a shovel.
Question: Can I dredge at the property, or anywhere in PA?
Answer: This question is very hard to answer because you would, as of this writing (7/4/2008) need to get a permit off the DEP.
Question: Can I go out in my back yard and find gold?
The Short Answer: Maybe. Depends upon what state and where you live.
Question: Where else can I find gold in PA?
Answer: Here is a link on our site that is slowly evolving to show where you can go in PA to find gold. And here is a link to a break down of each county in PA. You really need to look at DCNR Map 59 to check your county to see if there is any possibility of glacial gold.
We need your questions. Please E-mail them to us!
Winter meetings (generally November through March) are held at the West Salem Fire Hall on Route 358 west of Greenville. It’s about 2 miles east of the property on 358. If you are going east past the property you will see it on the left side of the road.
