Gold magic has a really good illustrations on how to find gold in steam beds and such. I really suggest you print out there pictures and carry them around with you, until you get to know where to look.

Goldmagic has a pretty good list.

Yes. Gold can be found in western PA. I know it’s hard to believe but gold can be found. If you take a look at the DCNR Map 59 map you will see glaciers coming down out of Canada. Well those glaciers brought gold with them. ON the map you want to concern your self with the orange lines they are glacial and placer deposits. More on this topic latter as I get more material. The main site for Pennsylvania Geological Survey is : http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/http://www.dcnr.state.pa.us/topogeo/education/ed.aspx

I was asked to put up a link to the Ohio glacier map: http://www.ohiodnr.com/geosurvey/pdf/glacial.pdfThe main site for Ohio Geological Survey : http://www.ohiodnr.com/geosurvey/

Back in October 2004 the GPAA had a gold show in York, PA. There was one booth run by Dean Ranson, where he had this map of gold finds in Pennsylvania and he told me that if I emailed him he would give me a list of the gold finds, well here they are.

Here is the letter:

Yes, gold can be found in Pennsylvania if you know where to look.

We have started a simple system of co-ordinates to help all our clubs with that “where to look” problem. This system is based on the Official PA Transportation and Tourism Map and the attached list of co-ordinates.

Step 1. On one edge of your Gold Find/Co-ordinate sheet make a copy of the mile scale that is on your map.

Step 2. The top and bottom of the map are marked in “letter” sections from left to right. You will use the vertical line between the two letters as a starting point.

Step 3. The sides of the map are marked in “number” sections from the top to bottom. You will use the horizontal line between the smaller and bigger numbers as a starting point.

Example:  Washingtonville (JR’s place) Q/R + 4, 5/6 + 18.

Using the red vertical line between Q & R go up to block number 6. Measure in from the Q/R line plus 4 miles (using the mile scale you made). Then measure down from the 5/6 line plus 18 miles (again using your mile scale). Your point should be the nearest stream.

Remember: Always get permission and clean-up when you leave.
