Allegheny Chapter of the GPAA’s July 11th Meeting
MEETING INFORMATION
July 11th 2009 Meeting notes
A beautiful day turned rainy with a storm that came though and drenched all 102+ attendees. Although since most of us finished eating before the actual rain came down it was just a wet meeting.
Several items were brought up.
Website
It was brought up by the webmaster that the space he was loaning us is now needed and that since for the first time in years the club actually has money in the bank that can be used for other items that we get our own web server. It was voted on and passed. One of the good things coming out of this is that now incase something happens to the webmaster, the chapter will not in the predicament of not being able to have access to there own stuff. We have been getting an average of 6,000 page views a month, with an average of 1,000 visitors a month so that means on average each time someone comes to the site they look at six different pages on the site, this is just an average.
Pavilion
A lady (I don’t have her name) brought up the issue of making the pavilion bigger. Right now it holds about 20 people, as we found out when the rain came though this meeting. It was motioned and seconded and carried by the group and Ron will look into seeing what is needed and what we have so that it can happen.
Water well for drinking and bathing
Jim Graycar brought up that we should put in a well so that we can have drinking and bathing water on the property. Permission from the owner may be needed, as well as permits for the drilling and running of the well. Jim brought up seeing if he can find someone to drill the well for us for free or to find out what the cost will be. So voting has been tabled on this until the above issues can be found out about. Although it was mentioned about drilling it was not mentioned what kind of tests may need to be done on a regular basis to make sure the water is fit for drinking.
Trailer for the store
Buying a trailer for the club store was bought up at the last meeting and some information was found. The size of the trailer that we should all be looking for is a 6 foot by 12 foot. The store manager figures for all the stuff we have that should be good, having room the walk around and stack instead of just a small trailer that we would just throw in and not be able to organize with. It was brought up about a used one, which we would be willing to buy if it passes an inspection by members and we get some kind of warrantee for it. Some one brought up going to Loews or Home Depot and seeing if they have any kind of trailer that matches our needs that they can donate or give a discount to. The Vice President Rob S. said he will look into from that angle, since a chapter member didn’t fill it was appropriate for a non-officer to contact the stores . So for another month the search will continue and any new information will be decided upon, and if all is agreeing we will buy the trailer in the clubs name and get the inspection and insurance on the trailer in the clubs name.
Outstanding Issues
New Out House
New Outhouse for at the top part of the property. Nothing new. It’s stuck at the point of someone needing to find out cost for it and placement, how to either to buy one or build one talking to the port-a-john company on if they can get to where it will be placed for cleaning.

From the webmaster
Shirts
Still no shirts for sale in the store. From what I was told they are just now being turned over and have to be inventoried before they can be sold. This makes at least seven months that shirts have not been sold for the group as far as I know. Because of various reasons the person who owns the shirts have not been able to be at the meetings, and did not want to have use sale them without him being at the meeting. So we can only hope that at the August meeting we them for sale.
Newsletter
I again was asked about the newsletter as to why nothing has been posted in the past two months. Again I have mentioned that I do not attend all the meeting and rely on the secretary to email me the information, her computer has been broken for the past few months. So with the new secretary I’ll see what arrangements I can make with her on getting the information, even if it is a phone call once a month.
Also some people have not been getting the notification of the newsletter or it could just be that since nothing was posted for the past two months that it seems that they have not been notified, so I’ll be spot checking those people at the next meeting I’m at to see if they got this one.
If anyone has problems with the website please email me. Please let me know what page you are on that you are having problems with and what web browser you are using and what the problem is. Saying “I’m having problems” or “It’s not working for me” means nothing, what you should say is something like “I’m on May 2009 photos of John S and the pictures are not showing up on the right hand side in my Firefox 3.5 browser on my Mac.” This now can give me some information that I can at least try to see what happened so that I can fix it if I can reproduce. With Windows, Mac and the top 3 internet browsers being used on the website and not even knowing what pages of our 300 pages that make up the website to look at, saying such a generic statement gives me nothing to go on. Thanks a head of time.
Also I use spell check on the website, but grammar mistakes can make it though as well as those spelling mistakes that spell check can not check, such as “someone” vs. “some one”. If it bothers anyone so much of those type of mistakes, please contact me as wanting to help to be an assistant in the making the newsletter. I’ve heard from several of you, in person, that you find it unprofessional and annoying when you see this on our website but you refuse to help me by being my assistant in this problem. As I have always said I’m looking for ways to improve the website and if you would like to proof read it for us let me know and I can email you a preview copy a day before I go live to give you a chance to point out the mistakes.
Photos
Sorry there is not really any photos from the meeting like the ones I usually do. Camera got wet and went dead. Oh well. Side note it’s fine out after drying out overnight. As in the photo’s I took of the train station museum in Greenville the next day.
Photos from the meeting and Greenville Train Museum
Rob S. Gave me his photos of the Vein Mountain Trip with the GPAA that he went on.
